My Track Is Grayed Out On EVEN And Fans Cannot Play It: How To Find The Cause And Fix It
Work through the reasons a track on your release shows as grayed out, from a scheduled date to a copyright flag, and what to do about each one.
If a song on your release shows up grayed out, or fans tell you it will not play, there is usually a clear reason behind it. Work through the checks below in order, because the second one changes what you should do next.
Check 1: Is a future release date set on the track?
You may have given that individual track its own release date. A track with a future date stays locked until the date arrives, and then it unlocks on its own without you doing anything.
To check, log in to Backstage, open the release, and look at the settings for that specific track. If a future date is set and it is correct, you can leave it alone and the track will go live on schedule. If the date is wrong, email support@even.biz and we will update it for you.
Check 2: Is the release in Disputed status?
Open the release in Backstage and look at its status. If it says Disputed, a copyright check flagged one of your tracks, and if the release was live it has already been pulled from sale automatically.
A copyright check now runs on every track uploaded to EVEN, including tracks you add to a release that is already out. If a flagged track sits on a release that is not live yet, that release cannot be published. If the release is already live, it is pulled from sale and moves to Disputed. This applies to releases published on or after 7 August 2026, and it is not applied retroactively to releases published before then.
You cannot lift a Disputed status yourself, and re-uploading the track will not clear it. Email support@even.biz with your artist name, the release, the name of the flagged track, and any paperwork you have for the audio, such as a license, a split sheet, or clearance for a sample. We will review the case and tell you where it stands.
AI detection works differently
AI generated music is allowed on EVEN. If our AI detection picks up a track, we add a disclosure tag that fans can see, and that is the whole effect. It does not gray out a track, it does not block a release, and it does not pull anything from sale.
Check 3: Did the audio file finish processing?
Only work through this check if the release is not in Disputed status. Anything you upload runs through the copyright check again, so re-uploading a flagged track will land you in exactly the same place. Confirm Check 2 first.
If the status is fine, the file may have uploaded without finishing processing, which leaves the track grayed out. To sort that out:
Log in to Backstage and open the affected release.
Find the grayed out track and re-upload the audio file in WAV format, because that is the format EVEN requires.
Save your changes and give the track up to 30 minutes to finish processing.
Open the release page again, where the track should now play normally.
Your release is live and you cannot edit it
If the release is already live and you cannot make the change yourself, email support@even.biz with your artist name, the name of the release, and the name of the grayed out track, and we will fix it from our end. If fans are already running into the problem on a live release, tell us as soon as you notice, because the sooner we know, the faster we can get it playing again.
